One of the first movies I ever rented on video (possibly even the first - along with the equally unintentionally bad Supersonic Man!), from 1978, here we have Luigi "Lewis Coates" Cozzi's cult classic piece of sci-fi trash - the Hasselhoff-tastic Starcrash. Starring the supremely gorgeous Caroline Munro (wearing some ultra sexy and very skimpy sci-fi garb for the majority of the film), the supremely curly David Hasselhoff, the equally curly Marjoe Gortner, the legendary Christopher Plummer, the late great Robert Tessier and Joe Spinnell. Hamilton Camp provides the voice for Elle the police robot.
The plot: A pair of smugglers manage to pick up a castaway while running from the authorities, who turns out to be the only survivor from a secret mission to destroy a mysterious superweapon designed by the evil Count Zartham. The smugglers are soon recruited by the Emperor to complete the mission, as well as to rescue the Emperor's son, who has gone missing.
One of the very best trash sci-fi movies ever, Starcrash is a huge lot of fun, awful in a good way and way more enjoyable than most modern day big budget blockbusters. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a big fan of this movie! Enjoy!
