Here we have a huge batch of comics starring or co-starring cult classic DC Comics sci-fi superhero Adam Strange. Created by legendary comics writer Gardner Fox and artist Mike Sekowsky (best known for his work on Justice League of America during the late 60s and early 70s), Adam first appeared in issue #17 of DC's Showcase comic in November, 1958. The title was a successful testing ground for new characters to see how popular they could be before giving them their own series. After three issues, the character moved to DC's legendary classic sci-fi comic Mystery In Space for a long run which ended with #100 (although the character returned for one more issue with #102).
After his tenure in Mystery In Space and for most of the remaining Silver Age era of comic books, Adam Strange was pigeon-holed as a guest-starrer, popping up in various books such as Justice League of America (brilliant comic - one of my all-time faves and one of the first American comic titles I ever bought - got hooked on the Earth-1 meets Earth-2 superhero stories!), Hawkman, Green Lantern and the excellent team up comics The Brave and the Bold (teamed up with Batman) and DC Comics Presents (teamed up with Superman).
In recent times, there has been a resurgance in Adam Strange material from DC Comics - the character seems to be quite popular at the moment and has appeared in many books in the last few years such as Infinite Crisis and 52 and their various spin-offs, Hawkman, various one-shots, mini-series and whatever.
Note that this batch basically just covers Adam Strange's presence in the Silver Age era of the DC Universe, with the exception of the "post-Crisis" 1990 mini-series, and also features no reprint series such as Strange Adventures, Essential Showcase and DC Super Stars (for example). Also, note that I don't claim this to be "complete" in any way as these comic book characters tend to crop up all over the place throughout the DC Universe books often for a brief cameo panel or two and it would be silly to include such books purely on that basis (although there are probably a couple in there). I hope that what I have included in the pack is sufficient for anyone wanting a decent collection of "classic era" Adam Strange comics. Also, there are a couple of mini/maxi-series that co-starred Adam Strange that I'll be posting soon such as Cosmic Odyssey and the all-time classic Crisis On Infinite Earths.
Originally I intended to include everything up to the present day but changed my mind at the last minute. Reason for this is 1) I want to avoid messy continuity confusion between the later and modern versions of the character and 2) I just don't want to spend forever uploading hundreds of comics which happen to feature Adam Strange! I may put together another Adam Strange pack at a later date focusing on the modern/later/current version(s). Maybe.
So, anyway, what's in this batch? Here goes...
