Çilgin Kiz Ve Üç Süper Adam

Another Turkish superhero must-see! From 1973 and taking it's idea from the popular Italian "3 Supermen" movies, here we have the superb Çilgin Kiz Ve Üç Süper Adam aka 3 Supermen and Mad Girl. That splendid poster and the title alone is enough to at least warrant curiosity!


The plot: Super villainess "Mad Girl", who's dressed in a red Vampira suit, is trying to take over the world. She works for another villain who's dressed all in red and wears a dime store devil mask. Aiding her in her attempt at world domination is a band of men in green satin Klansman's robes. She also has a robot made out of cardboard boxes that carries a death ray that will cause you to disappear into a puff of smoke. Battling her are the "3 Supermen", athletic guys who where red suits with an "S" on the front and which are bullet proof. For the better part of an hour the two sides battle each other in a series of spectacular fights.

Without a doubt:
This is the greatest robot ever made.

Possibly one of the greatest movies of all-time(!), Çilgin Kiz Ve Üç Süper Adam has it all: Superheroes, babes, hilarious and charmingly cheap looking robot, babes, splendidly colourful and charmingly cheap looking costumes, babes, charmingly bad and cheap special effects, babes, insane whackiness and... babes. The poor condition of the movie does nothing to ruin the thrill of watching this fantastically deranged psychotronic superheroic Turkish delight. But if any modern Turkish directors are out there reading this: I would love to see a remake of this movie!

Ôgon batto aka The Golden Bat

From 1966, here we have the nutty Ôgon batto aka The Golden Bat aka Phantoma (or Phantoman or Fantoman). Starring Sonny Chiba and Hirohisa Nakata, amongst others. Directed by Hajime Sato. Ôgon batto is based on the skeletal-faced character created by Takeo Nagamatsu. Supposedly the first ever Japanese superhero, there are conflicting stories of when "Ôgon batto" first appeared: Some sources say that the character first appeared in a pulp novel, while others say that he debuted in Kamishibai - a traveling show in which a sequence of pictures is narated by a storyteller. Whatever the character's origins, he has been popular enough to have been adapted in manga and anime form and, of course, this live-action movie from the Toei studio.

The plot: A teenage boy discovers that the planet Icarus is on a collision course with Earth by gazing through his telescope. Scoffed at by the scientific establishment, the boy is kidnapped and brought to a secret UN base in the Japan alps. He is immediately inducted into the secret program whose mission is to finish the Super-Destruction Beam cannon and destroy Icarus. The cannon is missing a special mineral for the lens. The team heads for a mysterious island in the middle of the Pacific. There they find ancient ruins of Atlantis but they are suddenly attacked by a strange drill shaped metal squid spaceship. It's commanded by the evil being Nazu who has engineered the collision with Icarus! He doesn't want to share the universe with humans and he really doesn't want the cannon finished. The action is on and the team discovers the Golden Bat who has been asleep for over 10,000 years awaiting this very moment to save the earth!

This chaos is KiLiNK me...

It really doesn't get much better than this... ever. Here we have three absolutely awesome Turkish super-anti-hero movies from the 60s starring KiLiNK - and a feast for the senses they surely are! KiLiNK is an unauthorised version of the Italian photo-novel anti-hero Killing (which was itself a rip-off of Kriminal). Yildirim Gencer plays the skeletal-costumed "KiLiNK" in all three supremely nutty movies which were thankfully rescued from total destruction for our viewing pleasure. There were around eleven Turkish KiLiNK movies in total but most of them are now lost beyond these three surviving movies so far. Irfan Atasoy plays "Superman"(!) aka "Flying Man"(!!) in the first two trippy installments. These KiLiNK movies are of archive quality but we're very lucky to see them at all. Thankfully, they all have English subtitles. If you don't enjoy these movies - then I think you've come to the wrong place! This is what CosmoBells is all about!

(aka Kilink in Instanbul)
The plot: Kilink visits Istanbul in order to grab a destructive formula which is in the hands of an once-collaborate scientist,professor Houloussi. He murders him, kidnaps his daughter, tortures her in some gloomy dungeon, and then kidnaps more people and tortures them but still, the formula remains hidden. Meanwhile, the son of professor Houloussi is blessed by a Devinne spirit and turns into Superman! But will he be a worthy opponent to the unbeatable and evasive master of all criminals, Kilink?? Well, at any rate, be prepared for a delirious, psychedelic, jaw-dropping, sleazy, fierce pandemonium!

Kilink uçan adama karsi
(aka Kilink vs Flying Man)
The plot: The first sequel to Kilink Istanbul'da picks up right where the first installment left off. Superman manages to locate Kilink's hideout on a remote island where his fiancé and her father are being held behind bars. Meanwhile, Kilink's scientists finally manufacture a lethal destructive canon-like weapon that is able to blast away even portions of mountains. Superman arrives there not flying but as an ordinary man and after becoming a target for the weapon is captured and locked up with his woman and his future dad-in-law. Of course, Superman triumphs but, fortunately, Kilink gets away. The film ends with a separate episode that has nothing to do with the island and the weapon. This time Kilink murders a rich foreign woman and steals her jewels. But Superman is still around for the final conflict. Sadly, the part with this conflict was destroyed decades ago. At least, the producers saved many stills from this segment and incorporated them in the film together with a narration on the action so viewers can still capture those magic moments!

Kilink soy ve öldür
(aka Kilink : Strip and Kill)
The plot: The third of the long Kilink series picks up exactly where the second film - Kilink uçan adama karsi - left off. This time Kilink is between two rival gangs and manages to turn one against the other. All of them are after a precious microfilm and a big foreign treasure. Kilink proves to be the most perfect Fantomas of them all, changing disguises more often than he changes socks. At the same time, it's raining gorgeous ladies all over the place. Most of them rivals.... All of them falling for him or off balconies, pushed by him. In a brilliant sequence, he punches a treacherous pussycat, strangles her with his bare hands and chucks her off a balcony. The film features the classic torture-the-tied-woman scenes. In one of them, even a snake is used for a quicker confession. Endless shootouts, car chases, murders, beat ups and plot twists make this sequel one of the best Turkish auctioneers ever. This time, our anti-hero proves to be a real hero in at least one instance! But above all he proves to be a fine nationalist who loves and supports his country!!

Kriminal & Il marchio di Kriminal

In the same vein as Diabolik, here we have two superb Italian cult classic movies: Kriminal from 1966 and the 1968 sequel Il marchio di Kriminal based on the fumetti - Italian comic books - of the same name created in 1964 by Max Bunker (aka Luciano Secchi) and Magnus (aka Roberto Raviola). Max Bunker also created the Italian comic book character Satanik - which was also adpated into a movie.


Dutch actor Glenn Saxson plays the English master-thief and anti-hero "Kriminal" - a masked villain who dresses in a skeleton costume to accomplish his fiendish plans. Sadly, these excellent must-see movies are only available in Italian audio - someone really should release these classics with English subtitles.*

Note: Another similar "skeletal" anti-hero - Killing - was created by Italian publisher and editor Pietro Granelli. Basically a more extreme and sadistic version/rip-off of Kriminal, Diabolik, Fantomas, etc, Killing is currently "enjoying" a revival courtesy of American comic creator/editor Mort Todd who is translating and reprinting old Killing photonovels under the new name "Sadistik: Diabolikal Superkriminal" (there is a rather over-the-top website dedicated to the revived character). I'll be posting movies of the Turkish Kriminal-Killing clone "KiLiNK" very soon so watch this space!

Kriminal
The plot: Kriminal is set to be hanged after he's accused of stealing the Crown Jewels. Right before the ultimate moment for Kriminal the rope breaks and he escapes! Soon Chief Inspector Milton of Scotland Yard receives a package containing the Crown Jewels and a nice little note from Kriminal attempting to clear his name of the wrong doing. Off Kriminal goes on another adventure that takes him around the world while being pursued by Inspector Milton always one step behind. Along the way he encounters dangerous situations and plenty of beautiful women.

The plot: After the death of a wealthy woman Kriminal hatches a plan that involves lifting a Buddha statue which contains half of a map to the riches bounty imaginable. Another fun-filled Kriminal movie with great action scenes, stylish cinematography and a swinging score.

Shandra : The Jungle Girl

Being a fan (almost an addict!) of late night titillation, I practically jumped at the chance to see Shandra : The Jungle Girl - seeing as erotica and jungle girls are two things I'm keen on! Shandra is your absolutely typical late-night "guilty pleasure" erotica trash but with a "jungle girl" theme tagged on. Lis Throw stars as jungle girl Shandra, along with Mia Zotolli, Lisa Comshaw, Drake Tatum and Burke Morgan. Also stars Sacha Baron Cohen's mate Ken Davitian - credited here as John Lopez. Features a cameo appearance by Robot Ninja and Zombie Cop director J.R. Bookwalter as a drunk. Directed by Cybil Richards who also directed the far better Femalien 1 & 2, Virtual Encounters 1 & 2 and Lolita 2000.

The plot: Four scientists wander the remote tropical jungles of Brazil to find a rare female creature that kills her prey by sexual pleasure.

I'll admit that this movie was a bit of a disappointment - it may be to do with it possibly being the R rated version or it may just be the fact that it's not that good full stop. There are far far better late night erotic trash movies than this and far far better jungle girl movies than this. That said, there are still thrills to be had and it's another to add to your jungle girl movie collection (if, indeed, you are collecting jungle girl movies!). The best thing about Shandra - besides the excellent artwork for the Japanese dvd release - is the end credits version of the catchy theme music which features a Shirley Bassey-style vocalist with a backing track that sounds like it was produced by the Pet Shop Boys. The track deserves a far better movie to feature on than this in my opinion...

Kure Kure Takora

Here is the excellent whacky soundtrack to the brilliant barking mad Japanese kiddy show Kure Kure Takora by the legendary - and possibly my favourite Japanese composer - Shunsuke Kikuchi. I originally planned on posting this along when I posted the complete series but I totally forgot by the time I had posted it! Anyway, here it is now. Deathstalker

Here we have one of the 80s video rental classics - Deathstalker. One of many sword 'n' sorcery movies of the 80s to feature Boris Vallejo's fantasy artwork in its' promotion. Rick Hall stars as the warrior "Deathstalker", along with former "Playboy Playmate of the Year" Barbi Benton, Richard Booker, Victor Bo, Bernard Erhard and the late Lana Clarkson, besides others. Produced by Roger Corman.


The plot: The warrior Deathstalker is tasked by an old witch lady to obtain and unite the three powers of creation - a chalice, an amulet, and a sword - lest the evil magician Munkar get them and use them for nefarious purposes. After obtaining the sword, Deathstalker joins with other travellers going to the Big Tournament to determine the strongest warrior. The false king holds the true princess in captivity, and plots to have Deathstalker killed, and Deathstalker must fight to free the princess.

The Mighty Peking Man

From the legendary Shaw Brothers studio, here we have an absolute cult classic in which we get the best of two classic genres - the "jungle girl" and the "giant ape" - in the form of Xing xing wang aka The Mighty Peking Man. Directed by Meng Hua Ho and starring the absolutely gorgeous Evelyne Kraft (look at her in those pics - delicious!).


The plot: Word of a monster ape ten stories tall living in the Himalayas reaches fortune hunters in Hong Kong. They travel to India to capture it, but wild animals and quicksand dissuade all but Johnny, an adventurer with a broken heart. He finds the monster and discovers it's been raising a scantily-clad woman, Samantha, since she survived a plane crash years before that killed her parents. In the idyllic jungle, Johnny and Samantha fall in love. Then Johnny asks her to convince "Utam" to go to Hong Kong. Lu Tien, an unscrupulous promoter, takes over: Utam is in chains for freak show exhibitions. When Lu Tien assaults Samantha, Utam's protective instincts take over: havoc in Hong Kong.

What you get when you cross King Kong with Sheena - Queen of the Jungle, The Mighty Peking Man is an absolute treat of a guilty pleasure. Enjoy!
