I planned on ripping and sharing these vids years ago when I first ripped and shared Orm & Cheep and The Little Green Man but only now could I be bothered! So, at long last, here we have the splendid 80s British cult classic cartoon series The Telebugs. Rumour has it that the look of these characters were partially an influence on the Teletubbies. Telebugs comes from what could be seen as the last truly great era of British childrens' television - in regards to ITV at least. Around the same time as Telebugs, we also had other cult classic ITV kids shows such as Fat Tulip, The Giddy Game Show, Orm & Cheep, The Little Green Man, Creepy Crawlies, Number 73 and Rod Hull & Emu's Pink Windmill Show, to name a small few. Anyway, getting back to Telebugs... I used to watch this series every time it was on back in the day. The show ran for three series between 1986 and 1987 with the legendary Ron Moody voicing most of the characters. Each show was approximately 5 minutes long. The two video compilations I've ripped total 16 episodes. A fun, short but exciting series, The Telebugs is idea fodder for 80s/retro Britkids and modern day youngsters alike.
The plot: Professor Brainstrain (who is also known as Pwofessor Bwainstwain, owing to his unfortunate speech impediment) invents three robots known as the Telebugs: C.H.I.P. (Coordinated Hexadecimal Information Processor), S.A.M.A.N.T.H.A. (Solar Activated Micro Automated Non-inTerference Hearing Apparatus) and B.U.G. (Binary Unmanned Gamma camera). Accompanied by a flying video pack called M.I.C. (Mobile Independent Camera), the Telebugs aim to stop enemies such as Baron Bullybyte, Magna, Angel Brain and Arcadia, whilst working as reporters for a TV executive named Mr McStarch.
Note: For those looking forward to hearing it (as I was), the very memorable and rather catchy "I Have A Heart" end theme song does not appear on these episodes for some reason. (There are some unreleased series 2 episodes on youtube which feature that great end theme song so all is not lost!)
