REID ERROL/ARRON HARRY/DERRICK PARRIS - IMAGES (BRH-29)

More mid-80s library goodness from Bruton. This one is full of the kind of upbeat electro and smooth Shakatak-style easy-funk tracks that ITV would play during a technical fault. In other words, it's all good stuff!

WARREN BENNETT & BRIAN BENNETT - IN THE GROOVE (BRH-28)

Excellent mid-80s Bruton release from the two Bennetts containing loads of sound-a-likes of upbeat dance-pop hits of the time (see how many you can spot!) - most likely used by tv productions who couldn't afford to license the original songs by the original artists that most of the tracks on here appear to emulate... For instance, "Xenon Lights" is heavily reminiscent of anything by Frankie Goes To Hollywood and even starts off with the main coda from Edwin Starr's "War", whilst "Mix It Up" is a total dead ringer for "Axel F" and "Master Mix" has Paul Hardcastle's "19" written all over it! Great fun.

COCKTAIL SWING

Here's a repost of the superb and exceedingly rare Cocktail Swing... This is an absolute must-own for easy listening, library and tv music collectors so gets it whilst you cannst!............

From the people who bought you Girl In A Suitcase, Watch With Teacher, Natural Born Fillers, The Day The TV Stood Still, Department TV and Girl In A Suitcase (Upgraded), here is one of the earliest of their superb cult/retro tv/radio/library music releases - the increasingly incredibly rare 1999 release Cocktail Swing on the Codename Music label. Cocktail Swing is an absolute must-own for collectors and connoiseurs of testcard/tv/radio/library music. All of the music comes from legendary big bands The Johnny Howard Band and The Otto Keller Band. The vibe is totally of an easy listening-lounge-testcard nature - so from that description you should know what to expect: plenty of brass, dings, dongs, happy nostalgia and how's yer father. Pearls on here include the original theme tune to ITV's Wish You Were Here, "Carnaby Chick" from Radio 2's Two's Best and "Eye Catcher" for Radio 2's The Early Show. Plus Test Card Transmission Tape classics such as "That's How The Hula Was Born", "Don't Fall In Love", "King For A Night" and "You Blew It". "Cocktails For Two" and "Everybody Loves Somebody" were used when Radio 5's Test Match Cricket was abandoned due to "Rain Stopped Play". Like I say - Cocktail Swing is an absolute must-own so download, listen and enjoy the classic retro television sound they just don't make anymore.

WATCH WITH TEACHER

Another much requested repost - so here's a fresh rip. Get it while you can!.........

From the people who bought you the superb must-own tv/library music compilations Girl In A Suitcase, Natural Born Fillers, Department TV and The Day The TV Stood Still, Watch With Teacher collects a whopping 79 tracks worth of music used during the Schools & Colleges programme transmissions (and there abouts) on British television during the late 60s to mid 80s. Trust me when I say that this is an absolute must-own for Britkids who grew up hearing this stuff at school and at home (either you were ill, on holiday or just plain wagging it!)!

Gems on here include the full-length version of Randy Oda's sublime and funky "Bart" - a track often played before start-up and also when there was a technical problem, the full version of one of my fave theme tunes of all time: Stop Look Listen (we're talking about the flutey second and - in my opinion - superior theme as used in the late 70s and early 80s, not the earlier theme tune which is available on
Girl In A Suitcase) aka Tany Turens' "High Life", Raymond Guiot's "Ardente Elisabeth" - a tune they played during the schools and colleges clocks but is possibly known a lot better as the theme to ITV's Gardening Time, Alan Parker's "9-10-Out" aka the theme to Good Health (oooh yes!!), Gerd Luft's "Prima Ballerina" (theme from Watch!) makes yet another appearance, Paul Keogh's excellent Dragster (theme from Watch It!) and many, many more.

Watch With Teacher is an absolute must-own for collectors of library music, cult soundtracks, easy listening, light music, funk, etc, etc. Enjoy!! ;)

Music While You Watch

A much requested repost - so here's a fresh rip. Get it while you can!.........

As you can read from the cover, this superb compilation features two discs comprising of 62(!) tracks which have been used variously on good old British television back in the day whether it be tv shows (such as Crown Court, Hark At Barker, The Village, ...And Mother Makes Three, Queenie's Castle, Potter and Finding Out, amonst many others), testcards, interludes, incidental music and the like. Faves on here include Paddy Kingsland's "March Of The Moogs" - best known to me as the theme tune to both Tripper's Day (Leonard Rossiter's final show before he died) and it's follow-up series Slinger's Day (a better series which starred Bruce Forsyth in a rare and rather excellent acting outing), "Distant Hills" - the end theme to Crown Court (also available on the excellent Cult Fiction Royale), a great bit of disco called "Dot's" by The Bruton Players, "Airedale Curry" has 80s daytime-afternoon quiz show theme tune written all over it, Nick Glennie-Smith's synthtastic "Looking Forward", The Bruton Beat's "Soul Machine", The Bruton Players' "Lots Of Fun" and all the Keith Mansfield stuff on this collection is top notch.

Personally speaking, both discs are superb but I have a preference for the second disc which has a lot of synthy/electronic and disco/funk-style tracks as opposed to the easy listening "classical"-type stuff on the first disc which I've got a bit tired of hearing in recent times. Highlight for me is The Bruton Beat's "Winners" which was used as the theme music to the feature-length Return Of The Saint adventure The Saint And The Brave Goose. All I can say is that Music While You Watch is yet another absolute must-own from the WHR label.

Excellent Beatles-tribute band from Germany who perform contemporary pop songs in the various styles of the Fab Four. A hugely enjoyable listen from a very talented band - this album is far better than one would probably assume. Great music and a lot of fun spotting the Beatles song influences.
